John Broadwood & Sons Piano Company
Broadwood pianos have been played by such greats as Mozart, Haydn, Chopin, Beethoven and Liszt. Today, Broadwood a full range of hand-crafted instruments of the highest quality.
The Broadwood Piano company, based in London, England, is one of the most prestigious piano makers in the world, as well as the oldest, being traced back to a small workshop in 1728. The company began its history selling harpsichords, but sales were later greatly exceeded by the sales of their pianos. By 1793, the company quits production of their harpsichords to focus on piano making.
In 1788, the Broadwood company commissioned scientific research on the improvement of the piano, which resulted in the introduction of the 'divided bridge' on the grand, which improved the bass tone. The scientific research was done by the Royal Society and British Museum.
In 1821, a beautiful rosewood Broadwood Grand Piano with brass inlay was presented to King George IV at Brighton Pavilion. Today, Broadwood & Sons still make some of the highest quality handcrafted custom pianos in existance.
