Whether a concert pianist or an amateur pianist just beginning to learn piano, proper lighting is a must. A piano lamp is designed to look nice, but the main function is to aid in illuminating your sheet music and keys, thereby greatly improving your performance.
There are many piano lights to choose from, coming in various models and styles such as Clamp-On grand piano lamps or Balance Arm models. You may want to consider a piano light that has features such as an adjustable height or a dimmer switch.
Piano lamps come in both electric or battery powered models. Brass, chrome or other metal is the most common material for a piano lamp, and most come with a heavy base to add stability, but as I mentioned earlier, the clip-on variety can also be found.
House of Troy is probably the most popular brand of piano lamp makers, followed closely by Jansen and a few other top brands.
