The Charles R. Walter company is truly a family run business. Mr. Walter was born in 1927 and grew up in rural Watseka, Illinois as a baker's son. But Mr. Walter was always interested in the scientific aspect of everything, and in 1947 entered the University of Illinois. He graduated 4 years later from the School of Engineering Physics with a Bachelor's Degree.
He went to work for C.G. Conn, Ltd. in 1964 and was named Head of Piano Design and Development Engineering under Dr. Earle Kent, Director of Research and Engineering at the time.
Conn decided to discontinue their Janssen piano division in 1969, but for the next few years, Charles Walter would continue to produce high quality Janssen pianos, but in 1975 he unveiled the 43" Charles R. Walter Piano to the market with great success. The Walter piano reputation for producing fine pianos continues to grow today.
